The project is entitled “Targeting Obesity as a National Disability through a Community Pharmacist Driven Approach”. Commensurate with the stipulated goals of improving and protecting health and well-being through a focus on prevention, health promotion, and earlier intervention, this project has two tandem aims:
Launch a stratified (by age) educational campaign within schools that emphasizes the importance of a healthy lifestyle such that obesity and its sequelae may be avoided.
Identify obese/overweight individuals (using BMI and waist circumference as criteria) in a community pharmacy setting, and to perform HbA1c and lipid profile point of care screening with the overall aim of referring undiagnosed at-risk individuals for medical care.
